Job Description:

The VFX Systems Engineer (SE) is an integral part of our technology team. Reporting to the Head of
Technology, the SE role offers candidates an incredible opportunity to advance their technical skills in one of Ireland’s leading visual effects studios. As we continue to grow, we are looking for a skilled
SE to join our team and help shape the future of visual effects technology in Ireland.

Reports To:

  • Head of Technology

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Installation and support of studio IT system servers and workstations
  • Application support and deployment of 2D and 3D studio applications
  • Provide technical support for VFX Artists using Windows and Linux workstations
  • Install, deploy and troubleshoot VFX tools including Maya, Nuke, Houdini and Mari
  • Integrate off-the-shelf and custom applications into production pipelines
  • Support and maintain infrastructure, including a Deadline-based Render farm, Windows and Linux render nodes, NFS storage, Windows/Linux servers and workstations, network equipment, and virtual machines
  • Work and communicate with personnel working in the Dublin head office, as well as remotely in offices or home set-ups
  • Work with artists and producers to understand individual project needs and serve as an expert technology resource
  • Develop methods to streamline workflows and increase job-delivery efficiency within budget and technical limitations
  • Work with the team to design, develop and implement/install software tools to achieve the desired production goals
  • Take ownership of and assist the technology team with various evaluations, installations, developments and decommissioning of projects
  • Stay informed of latest developments in data-based workflows, audio and video systems and the general working practices of high-end commercial post-production studios
  • Manage preventative maintenance schedules.

Requirements:

  • Irish resident or willingness to relocate to Ireland. The job will be based on-site in our Dublin head office. Assistance with visa application and relocation is available for the right candidate.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • A minimum of 3 years Linux and Windows system administration experience
  • Experience within a VFX film studio or post-production facility would be ideal
  • Knowledge of VFX pipelines, Shotgrid, render-farm workflows, etc. is a distinct advantage, including knowledge of standard CG, compositing and colour-grading applications (Maya,

Houdini and Nuke)

  • Experience with scale strongly preferred (Render farms, Clusters, Clouds, Enterprise, etc.)
  • Good hands-on networking experience (switches and firewalls)
  • Strong IT security awareness (device hardening and patching)
  • Familiar with cloud and virtual infrastructure technologies
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory, LDAP and GPO
  • Strong understanding of storage and networking, NFS, SMB
  • Knowledge of programming with Python and other scripting languages such as bash, tcsh and Perl
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow defined process steps required
  • Adaptable and flexible personality
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, live production-environment workplace
  • Great communication and problem-solving skills
  • Resourceful with the ability to think on your feet
  • Calm under pressure and the ability to work well within a team
  • Excellent English-language skills

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: €60,000.00-€65,000.00 per year
